The State Registration

“Sonmaz Mashal” Cultural Relations Public Union is a non-governmental organization uniting its members on the basis of common interests which is guided by the principles of its members’ free will and equality of rights and does not stipulate profit-making as the goal of its activities or distribute any obtained profit among its members. It was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 27 September 2004.

The Goal and Objectives

The main goal of the CRPU is to promote our country’s integration to the ongoing global processes in the world. To achieve its goal the CRPU carries out the following objectives: - to organize the translation of the best pieces of Azerbaijani literature into foreign languages and to disseminate them; - to organize a competition for the best pieces of literary translation in order to raise interest in literary translation; - to promote the international recognition of on-going democratic processes in society; - to render assistance to the international recognition of pieces of Azerbaijani art; - to assist the citizens in acquisition of modern democratic values, etc.

The Chairperson

Shahla Naghieva is a chairwoman of Sonmaz Mashal Cultural Relations Public Union. She is a Professor of the Foreign Literature Department of the Azerbaijan University of Languages. As a winner of Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program sponsored by the State Department of the USA she did research on literary translation at the East Carolina University, North Carolina for 6 months in 2003-2004, and at George Mason University for 4 months in 2010-2011. She is the author of many scientific articles and several books.
